CBD oil may be the most popular, but it’s not the only way to take CBD. One method that’s been steadily growing in popularity is vaping.
Vaping can seem confusing for beginners, but it’s relatively simple. When you vape, you’re producing and inhaling vapour into your lungs which carries CBD and other active ingredients. Vaping CBD produces rapid effects and comes with pleasant flavours.
Still, there are some things to be aware of when vaping CBD, such as the required items, ideal vaping wattage, and dosage. Here’s what you need to know about how to vape CBD e-liquid.
How to vape CBD e-liquid
If you want to vape CBD, you need a device called a vaporiser and an e-liquid (also known as vape oil or juice). The vaporiser turns this e-liquid into a vapour that you can then inhale into your lungs to absorb the CBD.
There are many types of vape devices, but the most basic distinction is between refillable and disposable ones.
A refillable vaporiser can be used indefinitely as long as you charge it and refill the tank with e-liquid whenever it runs out. On the other hand, disposable vapes are only meant to be used until they run out of their pre-filled juice.
As for CBD e-liquids, most are formulated with two popular ingredients: propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Some products replace VG and PG with coconut-derived MCT oil, TEC Temper, or another carrier ingredient.
E-liquids can also contain active substances, which is CBD in our case. When you vaporise an e-liquid with CBD, it’s absorbed by your lungs and enters the bloodstream very quickly.
As a result, vaping CBD creates almost instantaneous effects. However, they last much shorter than CBD oil: only about 1-2 hours.
Types of CBD vape products
There are several types of CBD vaping products. The most common one is a CBD-infused e-liquid, which usually contains CBD and flavouring dissolved in a mix of VG/PG.
Some products use whole-plant hemp extracts instead of pure CBD, such as full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD. However, this is relatively rare as they are more difficult to formulate.
You can use a CBD e-liquid by adding to the tank of your vape device. CBD can also be sold in pre-filled cartridges or pods that you can attach to your vaporiser.
Meanwhile, if you’re completely new to CBD or simply don’t want to buy your own vape, you can even get disposable CBD vape pens. With this option, all you have to do is press a button and inhale but the pen will eventually run out of e-liquid.
CBD Vaping Flavours
The pleasant taste is one of the reasons people choose to vape CBD instead of using CBD oil or other products.
Most CBD e-liquids are flavoured with additional ingredients. These can either come in the form of natural flavouring or a specific blend of cannabis terpenes — a type of natural aromatic compounds that give cannabis and other plants their unique aromas and flavours.
If possible, it’s best to use a CBD e-liquid flavoured with terpenes, because they can provide potentially beneficial effects and work in synergy with CBD and other cannabinoids.
You should also try different flavours to see which ones you like the best.
The CBD vape dosage
The right amount of CBD to take depends on many factors. These include your body weight, genetics, the benefits you’re hoping to achieve, and the type of product you’re using.
As a result, the ideal CBD dosage for vaping or any other method varies from person to person. That’s why we recommend beginning with a small amount of CBD and gradually raising the dosage over time.
You can start with a regular-potency CBD e-liquid containing 10-20 mg of CBD per ml. Potency refers to the concentration of CBD in one ml of liquid. For example, a 30 ml vape juice with 300 mg of CBD has a potency of 10 mg/ml.
Take one small puff and pay attention to how you feel. If you don’t notice any effects, you can take bigger or multiple puffs. Again, wait to see if you feel anything in-between. If not, continue to vape until you notice an effect.
Use this method to figure out the right CBD dosage for yourself. Once you’re more experienced, you can also try using CBD e-liquids with a higher potency (30+ mg/ml).
What’s the best wattage to vape CBD e-liquid?
There’s much debate on which wattage and temperature work best for vaping CBD e-liquid.
CBD seems to evaporate at about 160-180°C (320°F – 356°F), which is lower than regular vape juice. This would seem to suggest that you may need to use lower wattages and temperatures when vaping CBD.
However, one of the only studies on this subject found that vaporising CBD at a temperature of 230°C (446°F) resulted in the highest CBD availability (amount delivered into the lungs).
There isn’t enough evidence at this time to say which wattage or temperature is best. For now, it’s best to stick to the recommendations of your vape device or experiment with vaping CBD at different wattages.
Another option is to buy a vaporiser designed specifically for vaping CBD, so you don’t need to worry about the wattage setting.
Vaping CBD: An enjoyable alternative
Vaping CBD e-liquid can be an exciting substitute for standard CBD products such as oils or capsules. You get the benefits of instant effects, portability, and pleasant flavours.
Having said that, vaping is not without its downsides. For one, it can require a bit more setup and experience than other methods of using CBD, especially if you opt to buy your own vape device.
Also, you should be aware that vaping does carry some health risks. Although a UK health expert review concluded that vaping is about 95% safer than smoking, it’s almost certainly not harmless.
Be sure to weigh the pros and cons before choosing whether vaping CBD is the right choice for you.
